THE CHERRY TREE BY RUSKIN BOND PDF

One day, when Rakesh was six, he walked from the Mussoorie bazaar eating cherries. They were a little sweet, a little sour; small, bright red cherries, which had come all the way from the Kashmir valley. Here in the Himalayan foothills where Rakesh lived, there were not many fruit trees. The soil was stony, and the dry cold winds stunted the growth of most plants. But on the more sheltered slopes there were forests of oak and deodar. Rakesh lived with his grandfather on the outskirts of Mussoorie, just where the forest began.

Cherry Tree is mainly a tale for children and written in such a manner that every age can read and understand easily. Each and every word used in this tale is very simple and meaningful. Cherry Tree is a tale that gives reader a brief insight into the life of Rakesh, a young boy, with his grandfather on the outskirts of Mussoorie.

The plot revolves around a cherry Tree that is planted by Rakesh himself, his primal protective instinct toward it, how he comes to understand the significance of the circle of life and in turn.

The comparison between the growth of the tree with Rakesh's growth from the time the seed was planted, and the various animals, insects, birds that approach the tree and the cherries themselves; virtually transports the reader into Rakesh's world.
