It is a truly global military instrument, able to project power over great distances and sustain it for extended periods of time. The ongoing war in Iraq illustrates the ability of the US military to overcome these operational challenges in the pursuit of US national interests. By any standard, the performance of US arms in this campaign has been nothing short of breathtaking. In just three weeks, US and Coalition ground forces slashed through Iraq with minimal losses to capture not only Baghdad, but also every other major city in the country.
