Your Travis series is one of my very favorites in contemporary romance, and the hero of Smooth Talking Stranger, Jack Travis, is my all time favorite romance hero. Avery Crosslin is an event planner. She and her sister, Sophia, have built a dynamic, interesting business, where they navigate the ins and outs of Texas high society and have made a real name for themselves handling intricate events. Joe is gorgeous, smart and clearly very interested in Avery.

But something about this take-charge woman, who has no idea of her appeal clearly fascinates him. What he discovers is that Avery is fully take-charge in her professional life, and mostly uncertain about her private life. Joe invites her to join him at a job taking photos for an animal shelter.

But as they get further involved, Joe discovers that Avery has big opportunities in her career that might impede their relationship. This is tough for me to write, but this book did very little for me.

When she finally decides to commit to her relationship with Joe, I had no emotional investment in the outcome. I miss your warm, decadent, high emotional romances, and unfortunately Brown Eyed Girl barely registered on the romance scale for me.

But as a romance novel, unfortunately it missed the mark. Final grade: C-. I've been reading romance for more than 30 years and reviewing regularly for the last five. I read most subgenres of romance except inspirational and steampunk but focus mostly on contemporary and paranormal, with a sprinkling of historical thrown in for flavor.

I am an avid sports fan, so I have a special place in my heart for sports themed romances. I'm a sucker for old skool romance, which is probably most evident in the fact that The Windflower is my favorite romance of all time. I liked the book a lot. The tender, alpha male in pursuit.

The family issues. A heroine who is competent. Those are two of my all time favorite books. It was with Hardy that she learned to love herself and trust herself. But Gage was just a guy in the story. Liberty fell on some hard times as well. However, Liberty would have been fine without Gage. For starters, Churchill would have made sure of it. It was a chick lit. Had it been my first, it, too, would have been my last in the series. I quit reading Linda Howard when she switched off her wrenching, emotional romances and moved to chick lit.

One of these days we will all do ourselves a favor and bury the demeaning term chick-lit. Avery got a little frustrating, but I liked her. I loved Joe. Jonetta Ejaygirl :.

Not for me. I think. I think sometimes authors burn out or run out of good ideas, but keep writing. No idea if that was the case with this book, though. This one probably will too, eventually. There was a time when Lisa Kleypas was one of my favorite authors- I thought she could do no wrong. Heck, I recently just went back and re-read most of her historicals for the 3rd of 4th time. I used to rush to the book store and buy a Lisa Kleypas book the moment it went on sale, but. Completely agree.

Was so excited to download this book yesterday. Everything was off — no pacing, no romance and worst or all she made a Travis a plug-in hero. There was nothing that made Joe unique, she gave us things about him but no qualities.

There were whole passages of characterization that were eerily similar — as a result the characters felt empty and I really had no idea why Joe was so infatuated with Avery. The emotional vulnerability worked for Haven and the baby aspect helped to Bring depth to Ella, but Avery just had nothing special about her.

I love Lisa Kleypas and was excited about this one. Sadly, aside from being handsome and really nice, there is absolutely nothing to learn about Joe in this book. Well, sadly, I do agree, which is a huge disappointment because LK is my favorite romance author although I have preferred her historical romances to her contemporaries.

I do think few write historical romance as well as she does although Sherry Thomas is giving her good competition for emotional depth and elegant prose. I still love LK and will continue to buy her books.
